SUMMARY:Presenting Your Science to Scientists
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Prof. Danielle Tullman-Ercek \nThursday\, July 9th\, 2026: 2:00-3:00pm\, Evanston Campus \n  \nWhether you are presenting research at a symposium\, conference\, thesis defense\, or professional meeting\, the ability to communicate your ideas clearly and memorably is just as important as the research itself. This interactive workshop draws on the presentation principles of Jean-Luc Doumont\, internationally recognized for his work on scientific and technical communication\, to help participants design and deliver presentations that inform\, engage\, and inspire.\n\nParticipants will learn how to move beyond information-heavy slides and create presentations built around a clear message and a compelling narrative. The workshop focuses on audience-centered communication\, helping presenters to develop their research narrative into a story for diverse audiences while reducing unnecessary jargon\, and to use visuals to reinforce take-home messages. By the end of the workshop\, participants will have a framework for planning and refining presentations that are concise\, persuasive\, and memorable\, enabling them to share their research with both expert and non-expert audiences more effectively.
