DESCRIPTION:Gale Wichmann\, Senior Director\, Strategic Partnerships at Amyris\, will be giving a CSB seminar\, “Turning Sustainable Biology into a Sustainable Business: Real Life Lessons from the Synthetic Biology Company Amyris\,” on the Evanston campus. \nAfter 20 years of existence\, Amyris continues to be a leader in the world of synthetic biology.  Amyris has gone from a stary-eyed start-up to a company that has successfully manufactured and commercialized 14 molecules. Along the way we’ve learned\, sometimes painfully\, what it actually takes to successfully commercialize a synthetic biology product. These monthly meetings strengthen our research and foster a more collaborative research environment by organizing the diverse sets of expertise within CSB and our greater research community to discuss new results\, suggest future experiments\, and brainstorm potential applications. These also provide a forum in which students and postdocs can practice scientific communication with colleagues in a more relaxed atmosphere.
